Rainwater Catchment System

Our project is planning to implement rainwater catchment systems at the Arch Bishop Secondary school and Miranga Primary school in Kolunje Kenya. Here are some quick facts about our project

Project Goals

- Provide water for ~210 secondary school children and ~400 primary school children

- Install 3 new 10,000 Liter (2,600 gallon) rainwater catchment tanks

- Repair two existing tanks, one at the primary school and one at the secondary school

- System aims to provide 4,000 Liters of water (1,000 gallons) per day while the schools are in session

System view -    New installations - blue arrows, Repairs - pink arrows

Drawing of Typical Installation
- shows from left to right-  gutter installation on building (covered with wire screen to prevent debris from entering system), first flush system (captures first runoff from roof, capturing debris before they enter the tank), and plastic tank installation on top of a raised masonry block base (tank is raised to allow for easy gathering of water)
