Students
Jay Tobia is going to his junior year in the mechanical engineering department at Rutgers University. He spends his spare time lifting for the Rutgers Olympics weightlifting club and working on the EWB Kenya project. He is looking forward to the upcoming trip and expects to learn a great deal while overseas.
Colleen Thiersch
Colleen Thiersch is a rising senior studying Biomedical Engineering. She has been involved with the Kenya project for about two and a half years. As the project lead this past year, she is excited to begin the long-anticipated implementation and see everyone's hard work pay off!
Prachi Agarwal
Prachi Agarwal is a rising junior studying Chemical Engineering. She has been with the project for one and a half years, and has been involved with the education committee and fundraising efforts. She is very excited to travel to the community and help bring change.
Anthony Yang
Anthony Yang is going to be a sophomore majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He joined the project in Fall 2012 and is the current fundraising chair. He hopes to learn a lot through this experience!
Upkar Ubhi
Upkar Ubhi is going into his sophomore year studying Mechanical Engineering. He first became involved with the Kenya project this past January and is a native of Kisumu, Kenya. He is excited to return to his hometown for the implementation trip.
Jennifer Weir is a rising junior majoring in Materials Science and Engineering with a concentration in nanotechnology. She became involved with Engineers Without Borders in January 2013 as a member of the technical committee and will serve as the travel team's Health and Safety Officer on the upcoming trip. She is very excited to be a part of the Kolunje project.
Professional Mentors
Bill Nichols
Bill Nichols, P.E. is a professional mentor for the project and joined EWB in 2009. He works as a Project Manager with 26 years of design and management experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades. Currently, he works as URS Corp in New York CIty. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1987 from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Natalya Shimunova, P.E. is a professional mentor for the Kolunje Water supply project and has been a member of EWB since 2009. She is a Project manager with 12 years of design and management experience of water, wastewater, and storm water treatment and conveyance projects, and currently works at Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor (PS&S). She received her BE in Civil Engineering in 2001 from Polytechnic Institute of NYU.
Jonathan Reed
Jonathan Reed is a graduate of Rutgers University working as a Civil and Environmental Engineer for CDM Smith Inc. in Edison, New Jersey. Mr. Reed first joined Engineers Without Borders-USA in 2010, and currently serves as a mentor for the Kenya team. He is very excited to see a great deal of hard work finally come together for Phase 1 Implementation of the Kolunje Water Supply Project!
